There is an interesting history to the Cambodia casinos that lie just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where gambling hall betting is prohibited. Eight gambling halls are situated in a generally small location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in a prime spot, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing capital accrued from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; however, funding sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and despite the fact visas are apparently required to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored bateau gambling den, contains one hundred and fifty slots and sixty tables. The Naga river boat never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slots and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the familiar table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive resort and hotel building that features many conveniences in addition to the gambling hall, which has ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and 88 table games.
